No offense - there is a reason that recumbent bikes are collecting dust in peoples homes... It is an inferior piece of equipment. They were made for people who are too lazy to sit up straight on a real bike, who like to sit and relax while "exercising" and aren't willing to put in real hard work.
Furthermore sitting in that posiition takes your hips out of their natual plane of movement.
Long story short you'll have to do at least 4 hours on that bike to equal 1hr on your elliptical trainer.
Again no offense.... that sounds harsh, but it's meant to be helpful... go to any gym, there's a reason why the people who are always on recumbent bikes look the way they do, and continue to keep looking the same.

I don't understand why you just don't join a gym...

If you're looking for a step up in sledge hammers, they do have 16 lbs ones you know. If you want a decent hammer style workout you should try spiking railway spikes with a spike maul the long head is a workout for your grip as well as rotations.

I always stand or let my arm hang in free space, or on the table. Holding a 90degree bicep lock, flexin my shoulder, back and core while concentrating on my rotation, or any area, seems more efficient to me. It's like locking out and attacking the brach, and just try to sustain the pain. If my bicep fails before my hand flattens, then I work on my bicep. Always trying to eliminate the weakest link. This seems to cut my work out time down. I honestly don't even count most reps I do. I just go till I can't anymore, rest and repeat. I do however many I can that day. I time some of my static holds for motivation. Just recently got some seatbelt and started doing statics hangs of 50 lbs over the top/front of my hand at a roughly 70degree bicep lock and trying to keep my elbow infront of me. My PB is 43 sec, it was during a practice. I was tired but fired. Try it out.

They have a nice 20 pounder at House of Tools. It was almost $40, just for the head. Mmmmmm...... POST MAUL.....

Matt, LOVE The hellboy quote. VERY COOL The Right Hand of Doom
Hellboy's right hand, referred to as the "Right Hand of Doom", consists of a large forearm and hand that seems to be made from red stone. The Hand is effectively invulnerable and feels no pain, and is much like a sledgehammer when used to destroy an enemy.Seemed suitable? ...Tim was thinking of "Sledge Hammer".

What are those dinky little plastic things you're using on the brach racks, wrist roller, and towel over the knuckels?
