i was just wondering what supplements everyone uses and if you think some are a waste of time?
ive heard that taking such things like a multivitamin are almost pointless because your body can absorb most of it and its mostly wasted? true or false?

Regularly I use 2 different types of protein, multivitamin, calcium, fish oil (omega 3), glucosamine...
Occasionally creatine.
Multivitamins play a role while they are in your body. Water soluble vitamins leave your body in about 3 hours so it is beneficial to spread them out throughout the day (cut in half etc). I am not sure about these huge vitamin packs that various companies sell... they seem like a waste to me unless you are just eating rice and chicken.
As far as some being a waste of time... well... some companies are reputable and have good products but lets face it... Gakic is not going to make you look like Jay Cutler. A solid training regimen with sensible diet and supplemented protein intake will work for anyone.

Ever since I started bodybuilding back in the day and also doing my personal trainer courses I have made sure I knew a lot about supplements and I know I have wasted my share of money on lots of them that I know for a fact did absolutely nothing for me. But that is how you learn I guess. I have a pretty large supplement cupboard at home but I don't use all of them all the time. I will show the supplements that I use but I will also add a small note as to what I use it for and when/how often I use them. This stuff all works for me and that I know for a fact but one thing with supplements is, what works for one person may not work for every person. One thing to keep in mind with supplements is that without a good healthy meal plan it is pretty much pointless to take most supplements as most of your nutrients should be coming from real food. Also, Water should be considered one of your main supplements because of all the health benefits associated with drinking lots of water, especially when on any kind of thermogenic (Fat Burner pills) and any creatine product as your body requires a LOT more water than normal when on these products because they use a lot of water in the way that they work. These are my main Multivitamin and I take one in the morning with my first meal of the day and one in the early evening. I take these every day. MY preferred protein powder as it is good when trying to keep your weight down but your protein intake high. Plus it contains some branch chain amino Acids as well as Glutamine right in the powder so that saves me having to supplement these products on the side. Not a big fan of this flavor but it was new and I wanted to try it. This product I do take daily This product comes highly recommended to me by armwrestlers from all throughout North America that I have spoken with via P.M and over the phone. I do NOT take this product all the time and like to take a full bottle (apx. 1.5 months) then stay off for 2-3 weeks then cycle back on for another bottle. This is my MUCH preferred type of creating. It doesn't bloat me with water and I get good strength gains off it. Because of how close I am to 198Lbs right now...(Resting about about 205-206 day to day) I am not on this product as I don't want to get to far away from 198. Once the circuit tournaments are done I will go back on Purple K. I have tried a LOT of kinds of Thermogenics (Fat burners) over time and this has come to be my favorite. It doesn't upset my stomach (as long as I don't wait to long to eat after taking it) and this is the product I would like to give credit to for getting me down to 198 Lbs. Amazing stuff. I take this product every day but somtimes only in the morning when I get up instead of the 3 times a day as recommended on the bottle. Gakic. Ryan is right. This stuff alone will not make you look like Jay Cuttler....although I wish it would but when taken 20 minutes before practice (even upon first use) a definite power gain is noticed at practice. WOW. I can pull with more power for a LOT longer in a match compared to when off the product. I don't take this product all the time. Only before practices or before what I know is going to be a heavy weight lifting session. Amazing stuff but kindof on the pricey side especially when considering that one dose is 8 very large pills. These two products I Always take together and they are very potent but tend to upset my stomach and give me some pretty bad heart burn which I am not known for getting hardly ever except when on some thermogenics and this one is pretty bad for that but it sure helps shed the pounds when your really need to drop weight fast! I hardly ever use these products. This is the Glucosamine cream I ordered through none other than Ryan Espey himself and I definitely know this stuff works when the day after a long hard practice and your forearms and biceps are tight and sore. I just put this stuff on my arms and within 20 minutes a LOT of the tightness goes away and my arms feel much better. This stuff does last a VERY LONG time as I only use it when I feel I need it. GREAT STUFF in my opinion.

very informative response Smash. It makes it easier shopping now that you posted what the products look like.
I had talked to a lady about CLA before but I am always sceptical when speaking to a salesperson that I dont know personally. You gave it a good rating.. have you tried other CLA or is this the only one? She said it was good to get rid of belly fat, but I'm not sure that one can "spot reduce" as advertised. If you could elaborate more on CLA here (or PM) that would be great.
Or I guess more to the point. What is your favorite supplement for fat burning? Would it be the Lipo 6 or the CLA stuff?
Thanks Smash.

Thanks Smash. Thanks a lot John. nah, I don't believe for a second in Spot reducing but I do think the CLA did help with loosing weight. It seemed to take a bite out of my hunger for those tough dieting days leading up to a tournament that I'm cutting LOTS of weight for. CLA is basically a type of fat that helps maintain and optimal balance between lean muscle and fat. I definitely prefer the LIPO 6 though as a fat burner. It's not so hard on my stomach and you can really feel it working. For example, when I'm at work moving around some really heavy steel parts and doing all kinds of running around for this and that I can really feel my body temperature and heart rate increase a lot faster than normal. Instead of working for a couple hours and starting to sweat you do that in about 15-20 minutes. Plus it doesn't get you all antsy and loopy just sitting there, It seems to only really kick in when you are active. Even walking for a distance seems to be enough to feel it working.

I think I'll give that Lipo 6 a shot.
I usually sit around 201-202 with a little bit of fat, sometimes I get up to 210 or so if I have a lazy spell. Really, there is no reason to be holding onto stored fat, especially in a sport that restricts one to weight classes.
I've got to smarten up and take my diet as strict as my other traiing and get just good lean weight on.

Stay to the basics, nutrition plays the biggest role. I was up to 290Lbs and within 6 months I slimmed down to 250Lbs. Diet plays the biggest role in what you are trying to accomplish. You can either spend a fortune on supplements which wont make a difference if you have poor nutrition or spend the money on good food. Keep with the basics.. Healthy food choices A high end microfiltered whey protein isolate (pre and post workout within 30 minutes) Essential fats Omega 3,6,9 Glucosamine Chondroitin (soothes aching joints and tendons) BCAA's (pre and post workout) Creatine (depending on your goals) Multi Vitamin (divided through the day) Glutamine (to reduce OTS, over training syndrome, and increase nutrient absorbtion) recovery And depending if you want to add some serious muscle, Arginine and Ornithine. These substances naturally stimulate growth hormone. Find out if you are a mesomorph, ectomorph, or endomorph. This will determine what training best fits your body composition. Keep strict with your training, train smart and get enough sleep. Set goals, fail to plan is a plan to fail. Take care.
