I'm really glad I started this thread, Turning out to be Very informative. Thanks guys. BTW, For those that do not follow the Team Saskatoon thread. I just wanted to say that with a combination of everybody's advice I was able to get down the basics to hooking at practice 2 days ago.
Now I just need to build up the muscles to help become better. My arms are TOAST still today. No pain, Just sore.

These are EXACTLY the types of responses we need in our training threads. This is the stuff that will make us all better. Guys in different weight classes, different ages, different schools of thought is key to helping everyone find out what works best for them.
Keep the opinions coming.

From practice I would say that the things I found myself focussing on the most while hooking were:
1: Try to keep my hand as close to my shoulder as possible
2. Try to drag my hand to the back of the pad while not opening up the distance from my hand to my shoulder
3. Try to keep my knuckles more Horizonatly facing than vertical.
These things made a huge difference from my not being able to hook to me now being able to hook.
Now I just need to build up the muscles that are very sore yesterday and today.

Austin: I do NOT use a preacher bench at all.. When doing partials or static holds I do them seated or standing with either free weights or cables. IF doing free weights I am seated with my elbow in my waist or just above..Doing cables I am standing, IN THE POSITION I STAND AT THE TABLE, with my elbow in my waist or just above.

Here is a situation I ran into practice tonight. Another puller I was pulling with who is extremely strong inside and has a better hook then I do right handed is horribley weak in the pecs, wrists, forearms etc but he can still beat me inside. If his chest and elbow flexors are weaker then mine how is he beating me inside? Its odd but left handed I kill him in a hook although Im left handed so maybe its just a cordination issue right handed. Have you guys ever ran into this?

what is the leverage like? how is he gripping you? were you staying tight? what techniques did he use?
if he is weak in the forearm and wrist he probably wasn't high hooking you. I'm going to assume that he might have been dragging you and openening you up?? Perhaps you didn't stay tight and he was attacking your bicep alone?

He was gripping somewhat high and dragging me like you said attacking my bicep. This is the only area we are somewhat similar in strength. I need to bring up my bicep strength up as its starting to fall behind and hold me back.

Hi Austin,
Are you sure this training partner of yours is really weaker in the areas specified, considering only static strength? Supposing, Yes, then...
Are his wrists really weaker all around (flexors, rotators, and ... uh, 'raisers' and 'lowerers'?) or on just one of these directions? Supposing yes, then...
Torquey elbows by themselves could still go a long way for him. The floor exercises I photographed for you are how I train this area, apart from practice.
Torquey wrists help too (pronating, or rather, unsupinating while deeply flexed). I sharpen up with a sledgehammer for this.
Hook versus hook outcomes aren't easy to predict!

Luke,
Thanks! Actually the following practice things went alot better for me pulling inside. It was mainly a technique issue and I wasnt staying tight. The floor exercises are tough! Ill use the 2 handed version for now to toughen up the elbows before moving on to the 1 handed version.
