Terry, yes, intimidation factor likely is a useful trait. If that's the only trait, though, I'd rather not depend on it.
Bloating my arms does the opposite for me. I find I may still have some strength... but it severely compromises my speed and reaction time. If you don't suffer from a pump the same way, that's an asset for you, I'm sure.
However, I do respect anybody that has a lot of stamina. That's certainly a trait that goes the distance.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the only trait to an arm like that is intimidation.
To build an arm as impressive as that takes dedication, determination, strength, endurance, genetics... all of which are good characteristics for ...... armwrestling.
The owners of those arms have slaved in the gym to build what they have. Im surprised how quick some are to discredit that.

I discredit it because most guys with those arms are not training for armwrestling. They are training for the "look". The "look" does not translate to useful armwrestling function. Thus, there dedication is of another sort. But, that is merely my preference and opinion... so it's really not important. I do realize that there is a pervasive fascination with appearance, though, and that tends to bother me. That said, I think most dedicated armwrestlers, after a number of years, do eventually get "good" definition to their arms. So, those that are dedicated to armwrestling will get the chance to be vain about their appearance eventually, if they so choose. - John

I don't think there's anything particulrly wrong with having arms like that but usually it's the hands that are the biggest intimidators. Nothing like gripping up with a vice-like hand. For me anyways.

big hands are the most intimidating thing about arm wrestling someone. they'll usually have strong wrists naturally and because the hand is so big it's harder to control it. it's just like my friend. now i don't have small hands, but mine are more thick than normal but avg length fingers. my friend on the other hand has got MASSIVE paws. thick width wise with fairly long fingers. it's like grabbing a really thick bar. he's not stronger than me. but he has a good natural technique. he's a natural top roller. it's a cross between a top roll with a shoulder press on top of that if you can imagine that. most shoulder pressers will push down on you in a hook. he can hold the top roll position...hands pronated and push down on your hand. if he goes into a hook with him...he's MINE!!! haha, but that's only when he lets me hook him in. I can't turn his wrists in because his hand is just to big to control. that's more important than forearms.

At the worlds in India in 97 the Russian guy I went up against his hand was so big when we gripped up that his fingers reached clear around the back of my hand until they just about touched my little fingers. Also he squeezed so hard I thought my fingers were going to pop off. Long story short, he slaughtered me.

big hands make up for lack of strength. I haven't arm wrestled anyone else with as big of hands as my friend. i need to find someone so i can practice with because my goal is to beat my friend. I don't care if i go to tournaments and beat everyone there. If i don't arm wrestle a guy with big hands like my friend and win...i won't be satisfied.
