This was discussed at this years AGM. I was wondering what everyone thought...
Have our nationals at an all inclusive resort somewhere in Mexico.
Good idea?

If you eliminate the option of driving to the event, the number of entries would drop significantly. Attendance is already an issue and no one wants classes with one or two entries. A national title would lose meaning.
To be held in a resort, would a weekend event be possible? Or would it need to be a week-long affair?
I think a pro tournament with limited classes and significant cash prizes could work as a destination event, but I feel it's not a good fit for Nationals.

I heard this year that Nats will now be on the May 24th weekend. This is my busiest weekend of the entire year for work. I now will never be able to make another Nats. I could not attend this year partly due to injury but mostly due to work. Spring summer is my bread and butter and long weekends are where alot of it comes from. I realize I am only one but it is what it is.

Forget the option of driving, there were tonnes of options to drive to this years nationals, yet ALOT of Ontario pullers didn't come.
So to me, not a valid reason.
But, I agree with the above, CANADA ONLY

I'd like it to be in Ottawa (or 2nd choice Toronto) every year - I know it's not fair to the organizers, but I personally loved going there.

Will sarty is exactly right!! ALOT didn't show not only that there was alot of BIG names not there.

I agree that a lot of pullers didn't show. But fewer would show if the event was held in Mexico. Of the pullers who do attend Nationals on a semi-regular basis, many only attend if they can get there by car (i.e. more western pullers when the event is held in the west and more eastern pullers when the event is held in the east). I'm not considering pullers who don't typically attend Nationals.

If we want a real tourist destination, why not look to the resorts Canada has to offer??
