[Also, if someone gets 3rd in the 105kg, I'm guessing that guy will get sh*%-stomped at Worlds, so who cares? lol. But I am serious.[/quote]
It has happened before that a person has placed 3rd at Nationals and WON the Worlds that same year. The first and second place pullers from Nats declined .
Just sayin....

Hey it's not the first time I wrote something on here that's been proven to look stupid after the fact. Interesting tidbit there, I'm guessing that situation would be a rarity unless you are from the Ukraine or Russia.

Guys what about IPF weight classes minus the heaviest and lightest, or it's rounded to nearest 5kg, similar-to-now counterpart: 66kg (145lbs) ----------> 65kg (143lbs) 74kg (163lbs) ----------> 75kg (165lbs) 83kg (183lbs) ----------> 85kg (187lbs) 93kg (205lbs) ----------> 95kg (209lbs) 105kg (231lbs) ----------> 105kg (231lbs) 105kg+ (231lbs+) -------> 105kg+ (231lbs+)
This would be cool for most I think, possibly with the exception of the 70kg class being missed the most. I'm trying to find a more refined system than the 4, or 5 class one that lots want, but many could still be happy with. Anyone like/hate this for any reasons? Any 70kg guys want to chime in?

If the Nationals is still to serve as the qualifier for Team Canada, then I don’t think we should drastically cut down the number of classes. It will complicate the process. However for any other event, especially a pro event with cash prizes, I’m in full support of a four or five class system.
I don’t think the 65/75/85/95/105 type of system is very different from the 70/80/90/100/110 type of system. The benefits of the IPF and Nemiroff classes are that the gaps in weight classes go up as the competitors’ weight goes up (a 25 pound weight class jump can be expected to have more of an effect on a 150 lb competitor than on a 250 lb competitor).
For Nationals, my preference remains the Nemiroff + 105 seven class system. The IPF six class system would be my second choice.

That's my general feeling as well.

I have some logic that to me shows a 5 class system is not enough, and anyone is welcome to shoot holes in it:
Lowest class size needed to likely keep the lightest guys happy*: 63kg (139lbs) (Will Sarty, Glen MacDonald, Bohdan Marfei) *an informed guess
Largest Class size needed to keep 2nd heaviest group of guys happy* (Tyrell Wojcichowski, Kade Revelstoke, Eric Roussin, Jeff Slater, John Milne): 105kg(231.5 lbs) *an informed guess
Now you must span 42kg in 3 increments to achieve 5 classes. That would be 42/3=14kg. But we need a gradient to keep the divisions proportionally smaller for smaller people. So I use 11kg, 13kg, 18kg increments, because it feels right to me.
This makes the following weight classes: 63kg (139lbs) 74kg (163lbs) 87kg (192lbs) 105kg (231lbs) 105kg+ (231lbs+)
As you can see there is detail missing - all the current 70kg (Vern, Marlon, etc.), and 80kg (Anthony, Shea D!ckie, etc.) people would miss their weight classes I think, as they may not be able to gain or cut enough weight to not be at a size disadvantage. Some 90kg guys like Kayne Hemsing might be left out in the dark too.
Another example: Hypothetical 6 class system (42kg span four increments: 8kg, 9kg, 10kg, 15kg)
63kg (139lbs) 71kg (156lbs) 80kg (176lbs) 90kg (198lbs) 105kg (231lbs) 105kg+ (231lbs+)
I believe this one is missing detail for people my weight naturally - 190lbs, as well as guys like Kelly Leitch, natural 172lbers, but it's getting close to being right. Side note: This also becomes similar to the ol' 70kg, 80kg, 90kg, 100kg, 100kg+ we have used at AB Provincials every year.
This logic pushes the ideal weight class system to probably a 7 class system, to get a low enough weight class at the start(~63kg), a heavy enough one at the back (~105kg), which could match the Nemiroff + 105kg system for example.

I think regardless of the classes that are used, like Tyrrell mentioned in another thread, the majority of pullers will adjust if the sport is important enough to them. We need to accept that no weight class system will please everybody, but we should try to find one that pleases most.
