Table workout:
I started this workout to help me develop defensively and to help develop a "lock"
Warmup: 2-3 sets x 90-120 seconds or so -- centre of the table light pulling very little movement, just working as if to setup before "ready go". working enough to get a little pump but not to wear out.
Working sets: Basically static holds in a defensive position. Not much movement as I'm trying to keep "locked up" and not allow my arm to go anywhere. The sets are designed where I'm burning up as we approach the end of the alloted time. So the effort is ramped up as the time decreases.
1x35 second 1x30 second 1x25 second 1x20 second 1x15 second 3-4x 10 second -- really having the agressor turn it up.
Cooldown: Much the same as the warmup. Nice and easy maybe working more in full range to get the lactic acid worked out.
Summary: Try to adjust the pressure so you couldnt go 2 more seconds after each set.. almost burning out. On the 10 second sets go balls out.. if you burn out at 8 or 9 seconds then that is perfect... you really want a max effort here. Your opponent will (ideally) have to be someone stronger than you or use 2 hands.

I have never heard of this exercise before John. Thanks for sharing your Tricks. With this locking motion you are working on, "Basically static holds in a defensive position. Not much movement as I'm trying to keep "locked up" and not allow my arm to go anywhere." Are you also applying a significant amount of backpressure when you need it? For example, I know that I am sometimes able to avoid my arm from being moved my using a ton of backpressure wich stops the other pullers drive. Do you incorporate this at all or are you trying to just use side pressure?

backpressure+sidepressure.
it also varies on the type of pressure your opponent is applying.
Actually, I tried it for the first time the other day. I think it worked out great. I will probably do this workout once a month and see how it progresses.

I'll be posting video of my on the table static holds.
Did some warming up on the table with a couple of the newer Ottawa High Hookers and then took part in a King of the Table with Mr. Larratt. Whatever I had left I put into my static locks.
I'll try to post some of the King of the Table we had with Devon. It will be in another thread so look for it.

You actually have an arm left, after all of that?

John,
This is something we are going to do more of in practice for sure. Are you doing any weights work?
