I've used a couple of different home-made units, and preferred both of them to the real thing. Nothing against Ironmind, but these each had a proper steel handle rolling on ball bearings, making it a lot smoother to use.

Rick... where might I acquire one of these with bearings in the handle?

Ryan,
I think John at fatbastardbarbellco.com makes some real nice heavy rolling handles with bearings. He also has some other grip tools that are cool. Hope this helps!

Ive got his 2.5" rolling handle and I love it. Much harder then the rolling thunder. Also very nicely made. Tell him I sent ya!

the 2.5" is almost exactly the same size as the rolling thunder. I cant even tell a difference between the two. It spins much better though then the rolling thunder. Its also alot heavier and made better.

Ryan,
The best one that I ever tried out was made by Rob Graham. He was making them for people for a while, but I don't know if he is anymore, you'd have to ask him.

Klash- you don't need to buy a rolling thunder, if you have access to olympic barbells. Just stack a couple of plates on one end, and grip the big end outside the plates, and do your deadlifts/static holds/rows. The outside end of the bar (where you put the plates) is thick and rotates out of your hand, thru the fingers. It emulates the Rolling Thunder mechanics, if you don't have the scratch to buy one at the moment (like myself) . I just started doing them- The mighty Devon showed me that... also, has anyone tried towel chinups? I just tried, and it was a humbling experience.
