mechanically biceps primary movement is supination... and mechanically brachialis is the primary elbow flexor.
In full contraction they both initiate elbow flexion. Eccentric loading produces far more tensile force across the tendons and because biceps is a bigger muscle it is more likely to tear before brachialiis will - also due to the fact that the insertion point is smaller via the anular ligament to the radial tuberosity, allowing mobility of supination. Brachialis has a direct insertion and is much more stable on the ulna.
If you stay tight to your arm in full flexion maintaining that static position, you're far less likely to have an injury as opposed to getting opened up and extended.

I'm not an expert on the subject,I've only been pulling for 4 1/2 years, but the majority of people I've talked to told me that there are more important areas to train. The most important being the hands and wrist.Personally, the only bicep training I do are static holds and once in awhile heavy hammer curls.

Rejean: Thats why "many" pullers top, BECAUSE they're WEAK in a hook. Not many are strong hookers...... ;D

Actually Christian... another point of view could be that "many" are terrible top rollers so try to rely on brute force & ignorance. ;D

Christian,
What type of curls do you feel best transfer over for hook strength?
Ryan, Hope the injury is healing up bro, you and Kehler need to make a trip down for the chehelis superstar showdown sometime soon. . .

Christian and Ryan, I think your both right. No 2 people have there strenght in the same place,so each individual person should think carefully about what area of training is best for them.Tks for the advice guys!

I think if you have a weak point you should train that weak point. My hook is not such a weak point anymore. Going to put off my soup can curls until tomorrow... too sore from the massage I had yesterday.
