Have heard it said before that biceps don't play a major role in armwrestling.With the current current injury to Tim Bresnan and the former one to Ron Bath I was wondering if it's bad position or if the biceps are used more than one might think?

Easy Christian, you're talking about John Brezenk here. Read on...."In my opinion triceps are more important along with shoulders and back.Biceps although they look intimidating are way down on my list for main muscles used in armwestling" taken directly from ASK JOHN BREZENK ARMWRESTLING.COM

Ive heard it said before that biceps dont play a major role but I would have to disagree. As my curling strength/bicep strength goes up my pulling is better once on the table. Again it might be different for everyone and probably depends on how you pull but any weak link will show up sooner or later. I think the way Brzenk hooks he probably doesnt use a ton of bicep but relies more on tricep and lats with alot of pressure down with his tricep. I would guess a drap type hook would rely more on bicep strength. Do you guys agree?

Tim does not have a very strong hook so I assume Mike Bowling initiated the move... then Tim's bicep tore. He usually uses a posting toproll.
Biceps play a role depending on how you pull. Any muscle from your fingertip to your shoulder can play some role in armwrestling.
Here is a question... how can someone pull with their lat when their elbow is planted on the pad?

I seem to feel my lats somewhat when Im dragging back in a hook but I think its more of a static/stabilizing tension but again I might be way off base.
What style seems to utilize the biceps the most?

A hook... but it seems that static strength from the bicep is most important. The drive to the pin in a hook is more shoulder or tricep... IMHO.

Steve: Thats o.k what John said. Not everyone knows anatomy and physiology...Still read B.S. about anatomy and exercises in Muscle Mags. Just like we use our lats in armwrestling (I've gone over that either on this board or maines board), which we don't.
I also heard the samething in an interview on armtv radio. Funny thing, the person who said it is VERY weak inside. No wonder he made that statement..LOL....BUT OBVIOUSLY that isn't true about John.....:-).....
Whether you are hooking or posting you ARE using your ELBOW FLEXORS...And YES, your biceps are one of many ELBOW FLEXORS.

Oh yes, biceps are used. I just tore my distal bicep tendon (same injury as Ron and Tim). I was in a losing position and had my arm opened up too much. I was trying to drag to the left while the guy was pressing down on my arm. And then I heard an audible tear. I agree with Ryan's comment. Working your lock is important.
