Mike has asked me to post the Womens Pro classes have been cancelled for the 2006 Mike Gould Classic.
Mike says he does have room at the event if any Ladies would like to set some sort of challenge match.
Mike can be contacted at 905-426-0891

As I said on the other message board...this really pisses me off...for many reasons. Lets completely cancel the classes..not just drop the prize money down even though that isn't right after jumping the gun and offering it right off the bat. Don't get into the fact the numbers are low...we all know that including yourself when you offered the money.

I for one will be there anyway!!! We've got our rooms booked and if there are no ladies that show up well then so be it, I'll watch the best of the best men in action. I'll enjoy it anyway because hey, I'm an arm wrestler, I'm in it for the competition, not the money so I hope others feel the same. Hope to see you all there, your friend in arm wrestling, Joyce King

Any chances of even some classes with trophies or something for the ladies?

Good question Ryan,
Mike would like to see something take place, we have tossed around a few ideas.
What ( I believe) is likely to happen is an open class with %100 payout.
Example, 10 girls pay $50 each totalling $500, %50-1st place, %30-2nd place, %20-3rd
That's just an idea, I think it will be arranged at the event, or as I said if the women want to contact Mike, something could be set up before.
I think the good attitude of the week award goes to Joyce King. Thanks for understanding Joyce. Glad you'll be there.

I'll pitch towards the womens prize money pool, we have done this on occasion at some events and ended up having more money for the ladies than any class at the event.

I would hate to see the classes cancelled all together... it just seems like a step backwards. Maybe if Mike would agree to the 100% payout just to hold the classes AND we could pass the hat around for the prize pool.
Problem with waiting to arrange it at the event is that there might not be any women show up if there is a chance that there will be no classes at all.

I think the point of having prize money is to: (1) Draw the best armwrestlers to the competition. We all have to pick and choose what tournaments to go to, from a time and expenses perspective. The potential for a financial incentive helps to offset the expenses especially for those taking time from work and having to stay at hotels. (2) Recognize those who compete. After all, the money is just a way to show equal respect for the men and women.
I've been looking forward to this tournament since November and was really disappointed that they women's classes were "cancelled". This would have been the first tournament I've been to that offered money. I love to compete no matter what, but without the possibility of a cash prize, I don't think I can afford it right now. If Mike does decide to do some sort of "payout" I hope it will get posted here so I can come. Thanks!

Mike has decided to run 2 ladies pro right classes, 0-143, and 144+. They will be %100 payout, %50 for first, %30 for second, and %20 for third. He has also personally added $250 to both classes.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you to Mike and everyone else who chimed in to make this possible. I'll be there and I hope others will too!
