Great article, just one question what about Ryan Espey 2003, didn't he beat Christian Binnie at the Worlds. -Kelly l

He did, but at that point Travis held the top spot because he beat Christian in May (prior to the Worlds).
It's important to note that these are how the rankings probably would have looked like had I been maintaining them at the time. Even though someone may have occupied the #1 spot at a particular point in time, it's possible that someone somewhere in the world was better. But the rankings would only have been adjusted if the top ranked person either lost, or was inactive for 12 months. It's quite possible that Ryan was the very best left-handed puller in the world in December 2003. There's no doubt that he was the best of the superheavyweights who competed in the world championships that day.

Great article Eric! Who deserves the best left in 2013 do you think? Still Devon, or Cyplenkov?

Who deserves the top spot? I think Devon, because he hasn't lost since beating Andrey. Would he beat Denis? I think so, but like everyone else I hope we get to see this match soon.

Then to me it is not clear cut until they meet - Cyplenkov is king of his world just as Devon is over here. I was kind of curious if you had any more information to rationalize who was better than who - thanks Eric.

I agree it's not clear cut as to who is currently the best. Based based on ranking protocol, Devon keeps the top spot until he loses or is inactive for 12 months.

In 1999 I became the boss for a while beating out Eric at the worlds. At that time he was the guy to beat.
