New poll to find preferred 7-class open men's system of two that both begin at 63kg and finish at 105kg, as what was voted on by the provincial presidents. I believe the original stated classes by Rick in his official vote sheet had one error in the a single weight class - either the 77kg one, or the 86kg one. The two choices above are the only two options that make sense to pick IMO to stay true to the national vote. I personally like either choice, but it needs to be one of them. My previous poll included a UFC-style breakdown which just confuses this issue - so I'm sorry for that and this is a re-poll. I hope everyone participates even though I've confused everybody! Thanks!

The classes were specified in the vote. It might have been an idea to vote whether or not to cut to 7 classes, and if that passed then to vote on which system to use. If there is to be a vote on the classes to use, then the UFC-type classes should be considered. 145, 155, 170, 185, 205, 235, unlimited. Would there be something wrong with being the same as the UFC (without the 135): 145, 155, 170, 185, 205, 265 = only 6 classes?

It would've for the lighter guys who already voted. Under 145 incorporates over 3 classes and would see people 150 ish pulling the 130 ish people.
Too big of a gap in my opinion and wouldn't have voted for it

There have been several polls on the message board over the past couple of months. There were polls on whether or not to reduce classes, how many classes to have, and what the specific classes should be. There was majority support to reduce the number of classes at Nationals. There was majority support for 7 classes. And the Nemiroff or match based multiplier options (the two in Jeff's latest poll) were the ones that were the most popular. As Jeff indicated, I think there was a very small mistake in the classes presented for a vote to Provincial Directors. I really think one of these two should be selected, based on all that has been debated over the past two months. Otherwise the debate can go on forever. We should adopt one of these two and see how things go.

Bring it up at AGM. AS I said noting is written in stone, We're only talking 1 class and 2 lbs.

Hi,
I would like to inquire on how results would affect people looking to qualify for weight divisions at worlds if different weight division formats are applied at the Canadian national level?
Example;
If a competitor who usually trains, diets and pulls at 143 lb consistently enters in a 154 lb class, how would you determine who qualifies for relevant classes at worlds that do not have the same weight category at national level?
Thanks

Eric posted this in an earlier thread and i think it will work quite well:
The pullers who compete in these classes would be competing for a spot in the following WAF classes:
63 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 55, 60, and 65 kg classes at Worlds 70 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 65 and 70 kg classes at Worlds 77 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 75 and 80 kg classes at Worlds 86 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 80, 85, and 90 kg classes at Worlds 95 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 90 and 100 kg classes at Worlds 105 kg class competitors would be eligible for the 100 and 110 kg classes at Worlds 105+ kg class competitors would be eligible for the 110 and 110+ kg classes at Worlds
The first place winners of each class at Nationals would be able to pick any class they wish, among the classes for which they are eligible. After this happens, the WAF classes will have 0, 1, or 2 spots spoken for.
Then, the second place winners of each Nationals class would be able to pick among the remaining classes, starting with the 105+ kg second place finisher and moving down to the 63 kg second place finisher (based on the assumption that the heavier puller will tend to be a bit stronger than the lighter puller, and thus should be able to pick his class first). At this point, more classes will be filled, though a number of classes will still have one or two open spots.
Then, the third place winners of each Nationals class would be able to pick among the remaining classes, starting with the 105+ kg second place finisher and moving down to the 63 kg second place finisher (based on the same assumption as described above).
The process would repeat until all classes are filled. Competitors who do not manage to get a spot in their preferred class should mention their interest in case someone decides at the last minute to not go to Worlds.
