The push for change in the CAWF was recently brought to our attention here in Ontario. We sent out the proposed changes to our OAA members to vote on and I was certainly surprised with the results which clearly prove that Ontario is on board with potential changes to the CAWF.
Ontario's vote results for the proposed changes:
Yes/No 17 Cutting Men's open Classes 4
18 Cutting Ladies Open Classes 2
17 Men's Grand Master Classes 3
14 Men's Master Classes 5
15 Ladies Master Classes 3
15 Triple Elimination 6
14 30 sec Ref Grip 7
15 Agree on Straps or ref Grip 5
13 Cutting referees to 5 on Sat 5
17 referees and staff share a room 2
11 Allowing elbow bumps 7

Wow that is one sided. I am curious how the rest of the provinces will come in.

In Alberta I just asked active pullers if they were in favour of weight class size reductions: 10-FOR, 6-AGAINST. Triple Elimination was an overwhelmingly in favour, I only got one opposed vote of all polled.

Rick - any idea on when the presidents are all voting on this stuff?
Do you think 2 weeks, or even 2 months away? Whatever it takes is fine, but I just need to plan my provincials weight classes and we were thinking of using Nationals weight classes. Gord and I'll just pick some classes if the vote hasn't gone through yet. One thing that I just thought of; it'd be nice to use classes from the men's open as masters classes, so that there is easier crossover within the Nationals or Provincials tournaments. Thanks!

I still have to talk to my executive but I will recommend we don't change classes or anything else for this year. These proposed changes may not workout, so I think we may let the bugs get worked out before we make any changes.

joey, it looks like ontario has voted for change, longer we wait to try to fix things the more damage is going to be done.

CHANGE NOW. I would lean towards waiting but unanimous votes speak to what the pullers want
