At next years WAF Worlds there will be a few new changes to the rules that were passed at the AGM. We in turn will also institute these changes at next year's Nationals.
- 30 seconds to get to the table (down from 1 minute) - 30 seconds to a Referee Grip ( down from 1 minute) - if BOTH competitors wish to start in: straps, referee grip or both they may do so.

Sounds like a step in the right direction.

Will a competitor receive a warning or foul if they are not clearly attempting to get a grip? Some people exploit it by just messing around for a minute and get the ref's grip.

In the Finals in Poland , they had one ref at the table and 3 around a monitor. is this new for WAF ? Looks awkward for the ref having to make sure both wrists are straight and putting on straps with no help from a downside ref . That's what I perceived watching from the live feed .Looked like the final matches were reviewed and checked for elbow fouls before the a winner was declared .

Good rule changes.
I'd like to see ANY slip go to straps, unless it was a caused through using an elbow foul (dragging your arm off the back of the pad to slip). The 2/3's of the way down, slip apart w/ hand control is annoying to say the least. If a person flop wrist escapes in losing position, he/she probably are going to lose anyways, but lets make the armwrestler prove it w/ a REAL pin!

Many slip aparts are intentional anyways, and we are specifically trained to "pretend" that we are holding on to avoid getting fouls.

Jerry: If one person is causing the problem setting up they get a warning(s); same as always.
Darrell: Yes it was brutal. The referee at the table was at the mercy of the monitor judges, They would tell us through an ear bud to stop the match. Then we'd have to wait for them to tell us what the call was and on who. A few times they told us on the wrong person so the competitors left the stage(2nd foul) only to be called back because they called it on the wrong person. Not to mention they were slowing the video down and calling elbow fouls that would never have been caught or called by a referee at the table. Not sure if you heard it on Saturday, but at times the crowd was booing.
Jeff: Slip out calls remain the same (for now). Also Jeff just because a person is flip wrist in the losing position does not constitute an automatic loss. They must intentionally cause the slip. big difference.

Hi Rick, thanks for posting this and the clarification. Still think the rules could be simplified more, and facilitate improved competition - less fouls to win, more pins to win.

I like the straps so I'm all for strapping people up. But to deny a person the win because someone bailed out of the grip inches from the pad isn't right. However, many times this slip isn't called correctly. The referee will blame the person in the losing position when the slip is the fault of both competitors.

We won't use the 30 seconds to the table as we don't have the same system as at Worlds where you see the next several matches that are coming up and are in a bull pen area.
I'd like to see a bullpen for Nationals as it is very frustrating when people finish a match and wander off before the class is finished.
