I think we need to have a Western list out here (because we know the people), and the Eastern list is done by an Eastern person. Probably good to have one person in charge of combining the two lists together, which is where the judgment will come into play; but solid logic will govern the majority of the two major lists.

i like the idea of an eastern and western ranking. i would also like to see it go top 20 again. i know this is alot of work but it gives the guys just starting out something to shoot for, promoting growth and encouraging new pullers

Besides nationals and the MGC, pullers don't travel outside their region. Even when two closely ranked pullers do attend the same event they may not get a chance to face each other.
Rankings are a great tool to promote our sport, if they are active and feature pullers that occasionally face each other. Right now this can happen effectively at a regionally level but isn't happening at a national level.
I like the idea of having a rankings for each of the geographical regions in which we compete. It would help build the sport locally.
We already have Ontario rankings. Western rankings would be great.
The national rankings would have to be mesh together of the regional rankings for the system to be consistent and valid.

Separate rankings for different parts of the country are a great idea. I'm just not convinced multiple people need to be involved in developing any given set. At one time I developed rankings for Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, and these were on InTheHook, but due to lack of perceived interest and prompt tournament resutls, I stopped maintaining them. However many individual sets are developed, you need one person to wrap them up into the Canadian rankings, and these should be updated whenever any of the regional rankings are updated.
Traditionally after Nationals there were significant rankings adjustments. For the remainder of the year, most of the changes involved moving Ontario pullers around, which had the consequence of either pushing western pullers up or down. There will always be some speculation involved, because we so rarely get to see certain match-ups, as Andrew has pointed out.
Do I hear Jeff or Andrew volunteering to develop and maintain Western rankings?

Great stuff, Andrew. Are you using a 12-month rule to determine eligibility?

I'd rather the rankings went to 220 and 220+. There are too many good 220 lbs pullers to get diluted with the heavier guys.
