My only loss at 2005 nationals came from Perry, it was a 2 minute match (inside), he was in a good pos. I was in a bad pos. (arm wide open for 2 min). My technique is tighter now. I've beat Joey both arms, his hand is his strength. But I was able to initiate the hook. Ivan I"m 2-0, left. 0-2 right. Now that's a scary hand! But if we go inside I'm usually successfull. Jaques in a 0-165 class crushed me left. We never pulled right. I think he is pound for pound(presently) one of the best pullers in Canada. He has no weakness, although his hand is his stongest point, his side pressure is insane. He is versitile, can pull inside and out and has recently developed a press(awesome shoulder strength). I have heard however when he drops to 154 he's considerably weaker. I consider him in the same mold as Denis D. just less experience. He and Denis have a genetic predisposition for this sport. If Jaques decided to devote himself to intense training...ON THE PODIUM AT WORLD LEVEL!!!
As hands go, all 4 of these pullers have an advantage over you and I. But as Crazy George once told me we have to be stronger every where else. Looks like you've succeded in that.

Oh ya, as far as Vern, we've never pulled. Probably the most feared hand and wrist on planet 154... But if I can ever break him inside the Bandit better get on his horse. Although that might never happen...he is after all the man! I'm not sure if Perry will be there, although he has attended this tour. for years. Ivan and Jaques will definetly be there. Joey(multi-dimensional, and smartest puller I've ever met) will surely attend. Maksim (142lbs) is giving up weight, but is the most explosive puller I ever pulled, you don't want to fall asleep at the table with him(espesially left). Possibly with the acception of you Simon...we shall all bear witness to the mighty Bandit...as he gracefully collects his money.

Looks like the 154 pound class is going to have some good match ups. All the guys mentioned above can easily take first at any given time. I am happy that you feel I am the one to watch out for but ... I have also had to pull all of you as well ( except Gobby ). I can tell you how hard it is to try and beat you .... I am nervous with every match and I just try and do what I can. The power I get from each of these other opponents is incredible ... I mean I pull with all much heavier guys at my club and they do not have this same power.
I try to beat the hand before beating the arm .... I need to get into my position or I completely lose balance and force with not being able to hang on to the peg. I use to love hooking before I lost the use of my left arm ... now it is the most uncomfortable place for me to be. I don't try to hide this fact as those who have pull me know that this is my weak area. Guys like Engin know exactly how to beat me easily ... as far as I think ... I am certainly ready for the masters class. I have passed my peek in this sport ... but with that ... I have also done all I could have possibly of done in this sport. Everything now ... is just a joy ride ... I do not expect to win at tournaments .... just want to be a force to still reckon with. I try and give back the support the sport has given me ... I had a very tough ordeal losing the use of my left arm ... and being able to come back and compete with the cream of the crop in our division ... helped me accept my disability more and give me a greater outlook on life. That is why I try to go to as many events as I can and hope that I can inspire others who have physical challenges .... and to show them that anything is possible if you can believe in yourself.
So when I say that I am equally scared of my fellow opponent and what he can do ... I mean it. I am only half the physical man I used to be ... but ... I am a better man at understanding what life is about and I pull with my heart ... not with my strength. I am thankful for my accomplishments ... and I thank the pullers out there who have treated me as their equal in this sport. I have never known a better group of people nor friends like the ones who compete in this sport of armwrestling ... the sport I love!!!

Hi Vern,
I am new in this sport... The reason why I started armwrestling is because of you and Engin.. Both of you are amazing.. I still believe that you are the one of the best pullar in the U.S. and Canada... We haven't forgatten what you accomplished in Vegas.. which I believe that it was the toughest tournament of 2005... Keep up the good work Vern.. see you in Mike Gould 2006...

Hi Chris...
What weight class are you going to compete in Mike Gould Classic? As far as I know you were 171 at Mike's tournament in Oakville? If you are competing in 154's let me know how you loose that much weight man?.. I feel very weak even when I loose 3lbs... I am trying to make 187...now I am around 191-192... Talk to you later...

alot of my exess weight is water due to creatine. So I drop that supp. 3 weeks prior to competition. At 2 weeks prior to competition i sleep 1 hour less and run 1 hour more. 1 week prior to, i sleep 2 hours less and run 2 hours more. 12 hours prior to weigh in i drop 3-5 lbs of water by running in garbage bag. Due to strength increase, i find that every 154 class i enter it is getting tougher and tougher to make weight. Gould's will be extemely tough to make weight. But i'd just be throwing money away 1n the 187's. Also it is extemely important when dieting to maintain high protein intake. When dieting i maintain 2000 cal with 200 grams of protein, to try to minimize muscle loss.

Chris I used to think the same thing about Vern if "I could just get inside", but he has beat me more times than anyone in this sport probably, and I have never once gotten him turned in, despite his desire to use his incredible hand and wrist to take control don't kid yourself he is hiding an incredible upper arm under that long sleeve shirt of his, no question Vern is still the man in NA, I am just hoping someday to get good enough to have a small epic battle with this great champion, something, anything where I can walk away feeling like for a moment I was able to reach up and challenge him.

Mr. Martel
If it was not for you I probably would not still be in this sport, certainly I would not have been driven to some of the on the table success I have had in this sport, you are not only my hero in armwrestling but truly one of the best people I have ever met anywhere in my life, I am proud to call you my friend. It is an interesting relationship armwrestlers have, for a few hours on an occasional Saturday I want nothing more than to beat you on the table, the rest of the time I am thrilled to simply sit around and talk shop with this great man.
Vern you bring a new meaning to the phrase Master Puller, one that simply obtaining the appropriate age alone can only but aspire to be as noble. There is no doubt in my mind that you will continue to be one of the most feared lightweights in NA for many years to come.

Gobby! are you planning on making the 154's at Mike's? You were closer to 176 in oakville.
I don't think I can make any predictions at this point, I don't know half the people you guys are mentioning, however, from what I have seen the last few months, I thing Rob mackenzie may surprise people.
and you never know who might decide to make the trip with John B.
