I actually competed yesterday in a bench press meet (Feb. 24). I lifted raw and my third lift was 458.5lbs to win best lifter of the day (using Wilks Coefficient). Keep in mind this was a successful attempt under CPU rules and I was being conservative due to this. I will break 500 under these rules by the end of 2008 which will also smash the provincial record (484). In fact, as soon as I get a bench shirt I may end up doing this at the next sanctioned meet.
IMO.... bench press does not translate to armwrestling strength at all.

Congrats Ryan. That is one hell of a lift.
I assume that is the last time you will lift weights before Arnolds?
On a side note... how far off do you stop armwrestling training before a big event like Arnolds?

I may have pushed it a bit far this time John... I actually did some armwrestling training last night. I am sore all over today. This week I will be just resting and eating... perhaps still a little cardio.
Normally I rest a full week.

Good lifting Ryan. I used to do powerlifting, but since I started armwrestling, I haven't lifted weights much, and lost a lot off the bench. I can probably lift max 275lbs or so now (if that). The most I ever did raw(no bench shirt) was 315 lbs at 190lbs body wt. ~ 2 1/2 years ago.
Funny thing is I don't think a big bench is a huge factor in armwrestling, except for maybe helping a press move.

Armwrestling has taken my bench away from me and it's depressing. Right wrist, now left shoulder. I've been nursing injuries since last March. I was getting near a 375 pound raw bench (no spotter or assist) and now I'm lucky to get 325-330. I will say though, armwrestling has greatly increased my biceps and back strength. I guess I just can't have both a strong back and strong bench... YET. ;D

About 5 years ago I hit a PR of 350lbs at a bodyweight of 190.. when i was training specifically powerlifting movements, not long before I started armwrestling... My elbows, like most peoples got really sore from armwrestling when i started out, and I stopped benching with a barbell all together for several years.. Then one day I was training with a friend and hopped in on bench and realized my elbows didn't hurt anymore but THEN i became a massage therapist, and all the downward pressure of massaging and they started to hurt again. Then I started again and I'm back up there, and have since done a few back to back singles with 345, and my first time using a shirt i did a few easy doubles with 365.. I really want to hit 400lbs... and thats why i keep doing it.

I saw Stephane Meloche bench 240lbs at a weight ot 154. It's still pretty good considering his weight. A ratio of 1.7 The most amazing bench press I've seen was a local guy from Alfred, Ontario. He weighed 250 and benched 475. He won that day with a 1.9 ratio. I don't remember his name but he was incredible.

Ryan, I just looked at the results ....they are posted in the CPU site. Good job thats an impressive raw bench. Here is a link to the 100 best lifters in bench presses for the CPU based on a wilkes formula. Shawn O'Halloran is tops in Canada with over 700lbs with a single ply shirt and over 600 raw. www.powerlifting.ca/rankings/rank07/OpM-B.pdfI'm down on the second page ranked 52nd If things go how I plan at Nationals I could crack the top 33-34th spot with a 230kg (507lbs) at 220lbs. Are you going to get yourself a shirt? I like the titan fury myself. Good luck at the Arnolds....some massive big benches will occur there althrough its a federation that doesn't drug test and they can use double ply shirts it's still very impressive to see 800-900lbs benches.
