I am new to this board does anyone know which is harder to do bicep or hammer curls? can anyone hammer curl their own body weight for reps? I weigh 154lb and am at 117.5lbs for 3 reps doing them from a standing position with the weights at my sides. I am working toward 154lb, has this been done and will it help me in armwrestling. currently i do not do bicep curls.

Welcome to the board. If each exercise is executed properly with an appropriate weight, then they should be equally taxing IMO. Why don't you do standard biceps curls? I highly recommend using a variety of exercises to develop any muscle group. Obviously you are strong in the hammer type motion, maybe you should work on your weaker lifts more. Concentrating more on other lifts for a while might actually help you reach your hammer curl goal.

I can almost curl your weight... someday maybe mine!

I too love the hammer curl i weigh 185 an do 110 hamer curls on a hammer bar . I find that the hammer curl really helps me with back pressure but you should realy do bicep curls to just try it with little weight just some to get a flex an it will also help you hammer curl strengh.

There are many ways to do bicep curls that dont tax your back. "Back pressure" does not mean that it is taxing to your back.

ive tried different bicep curls and over time my back starts aching but for some reason the standing hammer dumbell curls i do, I think benefit my back. i mean my back feels much better after a workout than before the workout and thats hours after the workout. right now at about 160-165lb i do standing hammer curl 115lb in each hand for ten sets after that i fo leg squats with the same dumbells.
