For training the biceps in a palms up position for hook or defensive positioning what do you guys prefer as your method of choice? Preacher curls, table curls, standing, sitting, dumbbell, barbell etc the possibilities are endless and Im curious what others have found seems to work best for them. I like to train full range with a barbell and Im still trying to find a suitable partial curl that I like. Thanks in advance,

Preacher with an EZ Curl bar, partial range to roughly 90 degrees.

Title of the thread is BICEPS STRENGTH...IF thats what you are looking for then palms up with Full R.O.M.....IF thats what you are looking for....

Bicep strength is bicep strength..AGAIN, if thats what you are going for, you do exercises that maximizes the biceps. By doing so ,you do exercises that works the bicep the most, by its actions. SUPINATON ( elbow flexion, shoulder flexion, adduction of the humerus) is one of its actions....IT WILL transfer to the table..... FULL R.O.M. strengthens a muscle, because it FULLY works the muscle fiber into a FULL contraction, thus, if the load is big enough, the muscle grows. When a muscle grows it gets STRONGER!!!!!!!!! Keep repeating and your bicep will get STRONGER!!
I bellieve partials are good for holding strength.........BUT you eventually have to go somewhere...... ;D

Yes... in concrete thinking Christian that is the best way to strengthen your bicep. Perhaps the question could have been worded different. I was answering the "Im curious what others have found seems to work best for them." part. I do not believe that full supination transfers to the table if you want to win matches rather than just make them look good. The Partials I speak of are for top range, not just static holding... so yes... you can eventually go somewhere.

Thanks guys, awesome responses and it definitely forces me to look at my training differently. Ryan, If Im not mistaken you do your partial preacher curl work on a preacher bench that has a face angle of 90 degrees. It seems most preacher benches are angled at 45 degrees. If you didnt have a preacher bench with an angle of 90 degrees what would you do? Is a 45 degree preacher adequate? Would you not use the preacher and instead do your partial curls standing, seated etc? When I look at some matches it seems the upper arm is at a 45 degree angle at time especially when holding someone right off the pad in a defensive position. Maybe using both types of pads has merit. Im obviously overthinking this but am curious what guys think who have been in this sport alot longer then I have think about this. Again thanks for the great responses!

If I did not have a bench at 90 I guess I would have to think of something else. 45 degrees is not adequate as there is very little of the movement with any type of resistance if you are just doing partials. In a match your upper arm is at 45 but unlike gravity, your opponent is not trying to pull your arm towards the ground in a straight line.

The left... well... its coming along. I have a long recovery yet ahead of me. In the wrist it is tendon issues but they are not ruptured. They were just badly damaged and will take a long time to heal.
The hand amazingly is almost back to normal. I almost have full range of motion and am starting some strengthening.
