What is the best way to avoid getting into a hook position? Any special way to grab the opponent's hand? Some armwrestlers I have no problem at the start but some others I tend to fall into the hook position. Anyone knows what to do?

What is the best way to avoid getting into a hook position? By toprolling hard... grip as high as you can. Beyond that it comes down to speed and strength (backpressure).

Ryan,
Some people talk about a low toproll to stop a hook but Ive never figured out how to do it. I grip high as well. What is a low toproll and do you ever use it?

Any move will stop a hook if you are stronger and faster at initiating it. A low hand toproll might prevent a guy from getting his wrist in.

So, actually the posting toproll is the most effective move right?

That all depends on where you are stronger.

If someones hand is stronger and/or bigger and they're faster... and they want to get a hook in, and you're not strong enough to open their hand, or fast enough to avoid getting there in the first place... it's gonna be pretty hard to get out of it.
If you're fast and end up posting they might not have a chance to initate the hook because they'll be out of room at the front of the pad... but if they're strong they might just end up sucking you back in and dragging you across anyways

Benoit, Quebec provincials light class is 0-150lbs right and left. Your probably the favorite if you show up. Work on that top role!! Remember in Quebec are provincials are cash tournaments.

Thanks Chris! I hope you're right about me. I will need to lose a few pounds I guess , I am at 154-155 right now. I will only be pulling in the left due to an injury in my right. Hopefully my left will be strong enough for such an event!
