This is really weird. I was about to post the very same thing. I tore my right distal bicep tendon at Mike Goulds tournament. I had surgery last week (complete success) and was told not to do any heavy lifting for 10 weeks. My question is (I am sure you'll answer Brian) can you still armwrestle? Didn't Ron Bath tear his bicep???

Was it complete or not? Mine was a complete Rt distal bicep tendon. I waited 19 days to have it fixed which was not smart. Because the AAA Nats were 8 weeks out, I took the cast off and was doing half curls with water bottles then 2 1/2 lb plates 2 weeks post op.To this day its VERY weak and hampers any 2 arm training. Advice: If complete of not,and you DO pull with the arm, then have it operated on as soon as possible. By me waiting the Dr couldn't attach it the way he wanted to thats why its weak. BUT 5 1/2 weeks post op while in a 45 degree arm brace I got 2nd LEFT at the AAA Nats to Travis, BUT beat Cleve, Bob Hopkins Sr and Jr, Bob Sutton, Steve Phipps ( I think). GOOD LUCK!

I waited about a week Christian. My doctor was able to attach it to the bone. How did you tear it Christian?

Because I waited 19 days, the Dr could NOT drill through the Ulna bone and "tie" it through. He had to anchor some of it to the periostium ( covering of the bone) and the rest he attached to the Bracialis muscle (the old way of doing it).
Tore it by picking someone up by the head and throwing them.... ;D

If everything is working propery, your nutrition is good etc etc... you can usually start rehabing in 8 weeks.. starting very slowly, by that time the scar tissue has been laid down.. at that point your main concern should be maintaining ROM and establishing the resting length of the muscle because if you have contractures or an imbalance it will inhibit your recovery.
In normal function the tendon inserts at the radial tuberosity via the anular ligament.. so if you get it drilled you lose biceps as a supinator to a degree... one of the most effective ways is to take the tendon from plantaris, a vestigial muscle in the superficial posterior compartment of the lower leg, and they bascially splice it into the arm... no screws, no real loss of function.
The thing about tearing it is that brachialis is mechanically the prime elbow flexor anyway, and in a lot of people they wont even bother to reattach biceps unless for aesthetic purposes...
And you will still be able to pull, just make sure you heal up properly before you do so... Mike Gould himself I believe has torn both, and he still pulls very well.
