Any questions I get via email will be posted here and answered.
"I live in Mesa, AZ. I’m 50 yrs old, 6’5”, and weigh about 360lbs. I’ve worked out since I was 14 (on and off) and about 14 months ago I started Armwrestling with the Phoenix Arms team. Saw your website – very impressive accomplishments. Anyway my reason in writing other than to say hello is I’d like to get your advice on working side pressure. For some reason I seem to be weak proportionally for my size and I’d like to improve it. Can I get some tips from you since you’re a big man also and obviously don’t have that problem."
Truthfully I use more of a posting toproll than a lot of side pressure and I do not do any armwrestling specific training for side pressure. My side pressure comes from having strong shoulders and it is more holding... the ability to keep my arm stationary in front of my body as my body drops to the side. The only thing I do that could contribute to this is a lot of table time and heavy shoulder movements like standing military press or even chest movements like flyes. I would suggest that perhaps side pressure is not the problem if you seem "weak". From what I gather from your email, you have a powerlifting background. It is a totally different type of training and perhaps it is grip or backpressure that is the issue.
"For some reason I seem to be weak proportionally for my size"... this is a totally different type of sport and size doesn't mean a lot. You need to train specifically for this. I would feel confident pulling against ANY pro bodybuilder.
