He'd be smart to go 77kg, he's giving up too much size and power to guys like JP, Ralphie, Randy, and Tibok. Not to say he can't still do OK there, but it'd be tougher for him.
This would make the 70kg class very interesting..Dustin could win the 70kg title, and he's training and motivated now - scary combo.

I think Shea would do fine at 86 kg. He's given Anthony some battles and managed to get a right hand win on Allen Ford less than two years ago.

If Crazy George goes, he will probably be in the 86kg.

No worries, Matt. Alberta, like every other province, has allowed "byes" in the past. That is, someone will say that they were ill or had to work and could not attend provincials. The president then has discretion to allow that person to compete at CAWF or not. This has lead to controversy in some provinces as some persons were allowed to compete and others had their excuse for not attending provincials deemed to be inadequate. The qualifying requirement in Alberta has the potential to take this discretion out of the hands of the president (or executive), i.e. there are no byes if the desired class is full (with three Albertans going to CAWF). In this particular case, Dustin can go if he pays the fee of $50 per arm to Alberta before going to Nationals and before anyone else does that as there are spots open in his class. BTW, there are some classes (for women and grandmasters for example) that are not offered at the AB provincials and any Albertan can pull those classes at CAWF.

Well that's interesting! I know Shea is very tough - big powerful hands. He used to walk around at 176lbs three years ago - not sure if he's heavier now. Pretty amazing to beat Ford in the right - wow - yeah I'd say he'd do well then too!
