Check out the new Alberta Rules if interested - we are adopting a 115lbs, 135lbs, and 135+lbs weight classes for provincials(copying the UFC classes, although UFC has not yet instituted the 115lb class). Prob need a heavier division in the future if women's numbers improve as well.

Does Alberta even have 5 active female pullers? Not poking fun at female aw, just questioning the logic behind having 3 classes for 5 pullers.

I have read a few of your comments, and I do believe that you are on the border of being rude !!! pretty sure this thread was for women to post their opinion on an issue that we respect and take seriously?

I don't believe it was rude, and there is no such thing as a gender restricted thread. I do however understand that this is a highly sensitive subject and my comments might trigger strong reactions. But this is not do to me being rude as I've been more abrasive on other threads without such a backlash of reactions. It's due to women being scared of possibly losing pieces of their sport.
I promoted and ran a very successfull tournament years ago. I had an open woman's class, structured each bracket/round in order of weight to be fair to the lighter woman. It was 25$ to enter and the $$ coming in all divided back out to the top 3. I had no interest in losing $ or buying trophies that would be left idle. I find it illogical that a promoter would have 3 classes for a potentially small grouping of woman. Maybe his goal is to not discourage lighter woman. But this should be done at the expense of the promoter or at the image or integrity of the sport. Watching 5-8 women get divided into 3 classes is counter productive to good viewing and appears as pandering.

I agree with Ashley and she is correct. There's no sense in attempting to offer up a logical rebuttal. As one no longer exsists.

lol. Chris, there aren't many women in Alberta (at WEM there were 6), but as Gord told me the other day we're trying the "If you build it they will come" mode of reasoning. In the past I've only offered an open women's class, but I've seen some major size mis-matches which I'm not a fan of. I see your point about not having a good amount of competiton, and this goes for the guys too, I have to figure out what to do if we only have a single female in a weight class - we need flexibility in the system to be able to jump classes when needed. We are only offering medals for 1st place, to keep costs down. Certificates are printed for 2nd and 3rd; we need this to afford the larger # of classes. "Pandering", ha, ha...never knew what that meant!

I hear you Jeff. That's why I would bracket the woman by weight in each round. It allows the lighter ones to get a fair shake while having a full and entertaining class.
