Looking at the past 10 years of Nationals results, the average number of combined entries in the 50 and 55 kg classes is about 3. Wouldn't you prefer to pull in a 60 kg class that has a better chance of getting more pullers?

As i've been discussing with Rick, it's vital we start looking at how to rally more women (recruitment program) and cutting back on weight classes is not an incentive for seasoned or new pullers due to limited options.
We have time to think about how we could go about increasing numbers without limiting options and there is where our focus should be. If there are no other options, the 60/70/80/80+ more closely resembles WAF classes, but that's also assuming that my fellow female armwrestlers agree. What may not affect one, at one end of the spectrum, will definitely affect the other in the light weight division. I could not convince anyone in the 70 kg range to compete for a National title with an open weight class.. they'd never see the fruits of their labor and how unjust is that.
I've already gotten feedback that if the weight gaps are too wide, people won't travel or risk injury for that.
I agree with Darryl. Women need to weigh in on this discussion to come up with solutions that cater to women's needs and wants. I'd proudly be the first in line, to have this conversation, because it is now long over due.

A combined 50/55 still has an average of only 2.6. That's why I think the bottom class should be 65.

While at Worlds I asked Anders why Sweden was so strong and popular with women. He told me that it was do to the work of Heidi and other ladies. They were out there advertising the sport to other women..

I might pull a 60kg but don't think I would pull a 65kg. I weigh in at 56 (kg) if I don't lose any weight, and 65kg is too much of a weight gap for me. As I previously stated, I won't travel when there are only 2 classes and/or only one arm. I am re-entering the wonderful world of armwrestling and would love to introduce other women to the sport, so I have to agree with Chantal in stating that eliminating classes would make it difficult to attract new pullers.

Need to have at least 4 women's classes. Can't go from having 6 weight classes down to 2 or 3 for sure. I think Jeff is not even close, his highest class is 65+ which is only 143lbs plus. The average woman is no where near that and I'm sure a woman at 143lbs would not want to stand across the table from ladies like me, Josee, Jen Rohl and other 80+ women. Jeff that would be like you arm wrestling Ryan Espey for a spot on Team Canada. Hardly fair. I think we need to put more energies into building the women's classes, instead of dropping weight classes. We will never be able to recruit new women and I know for sure the women that we do have will drop out because it is sooooooooo freakin unfair. I've heard the buzz and it's not good, we will be losing the good women that we do have now. Joey suggestion looks good 60, 70, 80, 80+. Could even go with something like 60, 75, 90, 90+ (33lb difference each class). This is how Manitoba built our woman's team was by adjusting the weight to realistic classes. Need to make sure that the weight classes are something that will work and make it fair for women who are wanting to win at Nationals to compete at Worlds. The world of Arm Wrestling is already so unfair for the women, don't need to make it even worse. Would hate to see women arm wrestling become obsolete.

I agree Lori, Joeys classes look good. It's hard to judge from a males perspective so it's good to have all your input

If there are to be four classes, I agree, those are the four (60/70/80/80+).
So reducing men's senior classes from 11 to 6 and the women's senior classes from 7 to 4. Seems reasonable.

Hey I agree with you Lori, I just answered Eric's question about 3 classes - it was a just a guess from me based on the females armwrestling in Alberta now...I think four classes would be better for sure. Honestly your opinion on this is much more valued than mine, regarding the women. Why don't the ladies on this forum each post their favourite four classes and then choose the most universally accepted of those? I could post them on Alberta Armwrestling to get more women feedback too.

It does seem logical to me as well 55% of the original number of classes for open men, 57% of the original number of classes for open women.
