Some good feedback so far...... Del I will give those ideas some thought.....Everyone is welcome......Yes to keep the prize paid from just the top three to maybe the top 5 etc will and can depend on the entry fee. I have decided to just make 4 classes. Lets find out who the Top 200lbers and under in the left and right are.......and also who the Top 200 lb plus Left and right are in the country......4 men's Pro classes. Also these classes will be offerd in the Novice tourney running at this event with prizes only. As far as women's classes I am still working on this idea. there will be some just what class or classes I will have to see.I will hopefully have alot more info and dates by the end of Nov. Just wanna do this one right and big.....First in my new hometown......Out of the country for a week but back on 19th and have more thoughts then......Keep the ideas coming in because I am open to suggestions . Thanks....

I admire that you're willing to step up, but here's the reality of it: Flight from Halifax to Sask $800, from TO: $600. Where a month or so later the guys from Ontario can drive to MGC and from down here you can get a seat sale for under $400.
It's the same problem we had when we put up $1000. for the top 143lb.

Oh yeah, "big mouth"? That hurt my feeling.

If you want to do best vs best across Canada, a promoter might have to pay for some of the two guys' flights (if that's what the promoter wants to focus on) and reduce prize money for others proportionally. Which would apply for a tournament on either side of Canada. It's a big country!

Before determining prize money, I would suggest getting touch with the top guys from the eastern part of the country to see if they are even interested in attending, and what it would take for them to go (i.e. Brian T, Allen F, Heintje, Ralphie, Sylvain, Devon, Mike G, Earl, etc.). It would be a shame for you to pour a whole bunch of money into the event only to have none, or very few, of these pullers show up. These pullers typically assemble for the Mike Gould Classic, so it may be more practical to just have everyone show up there.
I understand the desire to put on a huge money tournament out west and have all the big dogs show up, it just may not be possible unless the prizes are REALLY big. Hundreds of pullers live within a five hour driving radius of Toronto, which is a big reason for the MGC's continued success. This simply isn't the case with anywhere in Saskatchewan.

By the way Kayne, I think everything you've done with the Fit II Fight events is fantastic. Way to keep stepping it up! It's just too bad that it's so hard to attract competitors.

ive said it for years. There should be a western canadian championship, and an eastern canadian championship. The top two pullers from each class would compete at the canadian championships. Only four pullers per class. Prize money from the western and eastern championships could help pay for peoples travel to the Canadians. One year the canadians would be in the east, the next in the west. With any kind of corporate sponsors, entry fee's, liquor sales, 50/50 draw, silent auction at the after party etc. You would think that one could raise quite a bit of money to be able to pull something like this off. Every year we would know who the actual best in canada is. The mike gould classic for example could be turned into the eastern championships if you wanted to, and the WEM edmonton tournament could be the western championships.

It's hard enough filling up classes at nationals and you want to limit that??? Not a great idea IMO
But I do like an east vs west tourney

Maybe the 132s or 143s every other class there's lots of pullers. this years nationals had low number of competitors because there was a lack of eastern pullers.

I like Del's idea; Western Championships and Eastern Championships would each prob have 75% the entries of what would have been at Nationals (More total participation every year). Actual Nationals would be a low cost small tournament, but would have a better chance of producing the best of the best.
New idea: Both Eastern and Western Championships could be open to the entire country, but you could only participate in one or the other, no matter where you live.
